Does anyone have any experience with WS-ing Hydrangea?

Nope but I'm about to find out. I traded for some H. quercifolia and since they don't need cold strat. I will be WS them in late February or March. Do you know which seed types you've got? The H. quercifolia are native and hardy to Z6 but according to what I've read they'll make it through a Z5 winter if cared for.

I also have H. quercifolia. Oh, just to make sure what I have is seed, how big is your hydrangea seed? Mine is as big as poppy seed...

Mine is also very tiny like poppy seed and a dark, orangey brown color. I got seeds in a trade and the other party was extremely generous--looks like I have a full three tablespoons of seed in a large zippie bag.

Thanks, gardenweed! I probably won't WS mine this winter. I have no more place. Maybe next year. So please let me know how yours turns out!!

I've got a big enough yard I could grow hundreds of plants but will try to just sow enough to plant a few and give some away. I will try to remember to post a progress report.

could any of you here tell me how to collect seed from a hydrangea? would love to sow some myself..do you know where to buy seed from also?
Thanks

RE: WS Hydrangea

Moonphase, let the bloom dry on the plant. You'll find tiny little pods and the seeds will be in those pods. I don't know where you can buy the seeds. But if you can get a cutting, that will be much faster and easier than growing Hydrangea from seeds.

Hydrangea is another one that's very easy to propagate by layering.
