Well believe it or not there are a lot of plants than can kill our animals and us not so many for adults but for kids, yes. Well Datura or angel trumpet is one of those plants that can kill our kids and pets, I am not sure about moonflower and trumpet vine. Though trumpet vine is a native, and there sure are a lot of deer around these parts where trumpet vine inhabits naturally. There is even a plant that can kill an adult and it doesn't show up in the bloodstream, supposedly. I forget the name of the plant, but the info came from a woman that her husband had owned an operated a nursery. We were talking about the datura at the time and that just happened to come up. She told me the name and I seriously can kinda picture the plant in my head but I can not recall the name of it.

i had datura in pots all over the place and my dogs and cats didn't touch it. they never went after my moonvine either. the deer however gobbled both up in the fall and i think they were fine. viney things you could do in pots so they couldn't reach it if you're worried

I have no idea why I always think of angel trumpets when I think of Datura. Excuse that part but Datura is the plant I was referring to!! In Regards to: "Well Datura or angel trumpet is one of those plants that can kill our kids and pets,....."

I have 4 little dog and 26 grand kid and not one of them have EVER wanted to eat my datura, Devils ivy, or any other plant in my yard or house.

I'm pretty sure it's only the SEEDS that can kill them if eaten.

ALL! of the Datura plant is bad for you. No matter if you eat it or smoke it, it can kill. It is very bad Tasting! Bitter, bitter, bitter, So most things wont even tough it. 2 teens died here in utah a few years ago because they wanted to get high, So they both tried eating some of the leaves. It is very bad stuff. Getting it on your skin does no harm! it has to be ingested in some way. I have grown it here in my yard for 22 years and "NEVER" had ANYTHING even touch it as food.

| I grow both datura and moonflower... I love both of them and have never had anything eat them, no signs of it anyways. I like them so much, I'm creating a 'run-way' down the sides of my LONG driveway this year for the datura's. :-) If you decide to plant them Yvonne, let me know and I can include other varieties in your package. | I have a bunch em i just am teetering on whether to plant or not i just lost my male shihtzu at christmas time to a vicious attack of a neighbors dog and it about killed me. so now i am a little freaked out to think of losing another one, so when i read datura, moon vine, and trumpet vines were deadly to dogs i guess it freaked me out! i have two shihtzu and a golden and since two of the kids are grown and gone and the other almost 16 and kind of does her own thing...i have become very close to my dogs, i think it is a empty nester thing lol. so i just want to know that if i plant them the dogs or cats are really not going to want to bother them and i realize there are alot of harmful plants out there to animals and the dogs really dont bother my plants in the house unless a leaf has fallen or something. but what i have read is that the biggest thing is mostly gastrointestinal upset...vomiting etc... i dont know i am teetering cause i keep thinking would be my luck noone elses dogs in the country bother this plant but low and behold my dogs decide to snack on them. |

So sorry to hear about your dog, Ymaddox. That must have been very traumatic.. :( It is understandable that you are worried about something else happening to the dogs, but I agree with the other posters that the odds are very low. Perhaps if you offer them some grass (let a small patch grow long or a pot?) or something safe to chew on, you can be assured that they won't be interested in chewing on any poisonous plants.

I've never planted primrose but just looked it up and found some beautiful pictures. Thanks for the suggestion Rose! There was one that was a bright fushia color and another that was a dark royal blue with yellow center. I really liked those, but I don't know the variety. I saw that some are annuals, biennials, and perennials. I'd like to find some perennial varieties. Rose, I have many different datura's. Are you looking for something? I can dig through my seed box for you if you are. :-) Let me know... Em
