 o
WS demonstration

Has anyone ever held a WS demonstration at a garden club, school, library, or for any other group? I was thinking it would be fun to give a demonstration at my local library. I'm looking for suggestions on how others have held a demonstration.

Thanks,
Matthew

RE: WS demonstration

I'm a newbie and I just made a short presentation to my garden club. I talked about "why" then showed examples of different kinds of prepared containers. Then made a couple more main points. I'll probably take in a container when seed germinates and the goodie for them--share seedlings. If I had a more formal situation and a larger audience, I would probably have added a power point with photos snitched from the WS Forum.

I've done demos and lectures. It's a lot of fun. You need to know WS well because there will be questions and you have to provide answers. It's nice if you can break up the class into a lecture followed with sowing. Have the host provide the soil, the attendees provide the containers, and you provide the seeds and handouts of information. Do NOT wet sow, dry sow and have the folks bottom soak their containers at home. This way there's no mud in the lecture room and there's no mud in the cars when people take their flats home.

You're welcome to copy any info you need from WinterSown.Org.

Kindly,

Trudi

I've thought about doing some demonstrations, too. I live in a poorer county and a lot more people are trying to garden than before. WS would eliminate some problems for them. Last year a local church openned up some land for people who have no land to plant and to those who have never gardened before. This was the first time it was done in our area. Volunteers do the tilling, the church supplies the water and they asked for donations of seeds and assistance from anyone who could help. I wasn't able to help last year, but I think I'll be able to this year and I'd really like to introduce them to WS. Later I'd like to hold some classes to teach them how to preserve what they grow.

Thanks for the input! I am new at WS and put out my first ever WS containers yesterday and a few more today (11 total). I would need to do lots of research and see how my own WS goes before I would ever give a WS demo, but think it would be such a fun thing.

If anyone else has suggestions or ideas, let me know.

Thanks,
Matthew
