Snow and Ice dilema

I'm a newbie in the Cleveland Area and ready to wintersow with containers/soil/seeds, but I have at least 18 inches of packed snow with ice in the middle around my house. Can I wintersow my jugs and set them in my attached unheated garage until I'm able to put them outside or should they go directly out there? Should I set them into the snow/ice mix? Your thoughts please?!?

Welcome to the winter sowing forum cottagedreamer! I've got your 18 inches of packed snow beat by a mile--official total where I am so far this winter is 79.9 inches. There's ice about 10 inches down as well as over the top. I take a hand tool and smash the crust on top until I can dig down into soft snow and set the jugs in it. Then I push some snow/ice up around the base of the jug to keep it in place. If the ice/crust is too hard, just use a garden spade to break it up.

They really need to go directly out there into the snow and ice. Even in an unheated garage, there is probably enough ambient heat that they might sprout early, and you don't want that to happen. Do like gardenweed suggested, and break a space in the snow and set them into it. They'll be fine there.
