| I grew morning glories for the first time last year. I loved the beautiful flowers but I think I was the only one to see them open. I bought cypress vine seeds.
I need your opinion. Can I grow these with the morning glories, have them vine up the same thing? I would like their to be flowers to see during the day instead of just in the evening and early morning. Would the morning glory be too much with the cypress vine?
Yikes! I need opinions!

I've read that this vine is pretty persistent. But that has been in higher zones. I think our cold winters keep this baby in check. I think if your willing to keep an eye on it, you could grow it with your MGs. It will either look beautiful, or it will take it over and you won't see your MGs. And.. then you'll know for next year right? I've got this vine in white, and Im going to try it with my MGs. Im also tossing Moon Flower Vine into the mix, just to add to the chaos! *Grins*

Okay. On the package it just looks so dainty I wasn't sure if you would be able to see it but I will give it a try. I only have one area that will work for my vining plants so I guess we will see.

I've grown both and from my personal experience, the cypress vine is much less vigorous than morning glories. Both have re-seeded in my garden but the MG at a far greater rate.

I grew Morning glories and cardinal vine (a relative) on the same arbor this year. The morning glories grew slower, but neither was a real thug. Cypress vine seems to be slower growing than cardinal vine, and both it and morning glories will reseed well. If it gets out of bounds, just whack it back. It's very forgiving.

I had no luck with morning glories last year. That should be a hint how much shade we have. I tried cardinal vine, climbing black eyed susan and a purple running bean. The BES grew but died back even though I brought it in the house. The scarlet bean was really pretty but failed to thrive. cardinal never got much growth at all. I would like the vines to grow! I bought sweet peas to try again. What is with me? People that claim some plants grow like weeds and I can't get them to do anything - just like the zucchini I planted. One stinking gourd. I have big plans for this summer.

My cypress vine reseeds and comes up everywhere. Same with Grandpa Ott's morning glory.

Tazebell--If shade is your problem, you could try the perennial "Silver Lace Vine." It blooms in August-September and can take a lot of shade. It's perennial, but you can cut it back hard every year if you want to. You can also try to grow annual vines through it to get more bloom over a longer period. I agree with Ruthz, Grandpa Ott's morning glory is a great re-seeder and prolific bloomer if it can get at least part sun. Good luck!
