One Big Leap of Faith

Oh it feels so good to be back here! It's been a few years since I first discovered wintersowing, and sadly that long since I tried it again.

And not because I wasn't happy with the results! On the contrary! Between sprouts and trades, it was such a great experience!

I let life get in the way, and finally I've managed to corral things to where I want them. Things have changed. Maybe not for the less busy, but definitely for the better!

I'm a new mom, on my mat leave.. with an itch to start sewing!

Well, as I said.. its a giant leap of faith. A lot of my seed is almost 4 years old. And some of it may be older, having been recieved in SASEs. I remember some mentions of 'older seed'. But I never kept track of which ones. I have a shoebox full! So I just started sowing indiscriminately.

So last week, here's what went out.

Malva Zebrina
Blue Flax
Ornamental Kale
Poppies, annual, blue, and oriental
Venidium Zulu Prince
Sweet Williams
Stocks
Livingston Daisy
Geranium macuatum
cypress vine, white
Digitalis

I do realise I flip back and forth from botanical to given. Im not sure why, it's just how I have them.

Any opinions on my current sewn list? Of course I'll be thrilled for any of it to come up with its age.. but still, some green would be nice!

Happy Sowing!

Welcome back! After getting more than two feet of snow, I'm ready to see those little green sprouts...

I'm happy to share some of my seeds, if you need more. (That's certainly the seed enabler in me coming out :-)

Happy gardening,
Ann

Hi didzgarden,
I am learning along with you, actually, i am a slow learner,ha ha,,so,, i hope some one correct me if i am wrong.
I think,,in zone 5, it may be a little early for some that you mention,i believe annuals should be started a little closer to spring. ?????
Any one?

It's always nice to find sprouts in a jug . . . right?

I am still working on getting my jugs ready. Hopefully tonite I will get a friend to drill my drain/air holes in these heavy juice jugs. Trust me, I am not going to cut these all apart in spring. It's taken too much prep time so I plan on using them again next year.

I have been looking at tomato transplants *gasp* but I need a little headstart after last year's fiasco. Just a few to tide me over while I wait for the WS one's to grow.

Looks like I will need about 25 jugs in all, really. Maybe 30, to take care of the seeds I already have. Make that 40 counting my own saved seeds. Well . . .

No where near those brave souls that put out hundreds of jugs!

What about bulbs? I think I asked that once but it was lost in the list. Spring flowering bulbs such as crocus and daffodils- any use doing this with them? Or should I just stick them in a pot and leave them in the garage till spring?

Welcome back! I also have extra seed if you want it.

Once I get started I have a hard time stopping.

I love the sight of sprouts. I am trying not to look as long as possible but it is getting hard!

I also save some containers to the next year. It makes it much easier cause they are all ready to go. I plan to clean and save even more this year.

Send me an email if you want more seeds. I have some stuff left.

Karen

With the exception of the 4 above, Im certain that the others will be fine WSn.

These four, tho, I am not familiar with. Im guessing stock will be ok, the others I have No clue!

@tazebell: What happened last year?

I'm a new WSer. Been dithering all morning, reading WS tomato threads, and was finally just about to prep some jugs for tomato seeds... but now I am worried! O_o

Hi Didz. I somehow feel like we've traded in the past... The name is quite familiar. Welcome Back!

Need seeds? Let me know.

Hi Tiffy! *Waves*

We did indeed! Infact, one of the reasons I have so many seeds, is because of your generosity. It's also the reason I got addicted to Wintersowing. *Grins* Everything was very successful!

You are such an enabler! *Laughs* I don't have any 'viable' seed to trade though. As I mention, most of my seeds are from a couple of years ago.

Thanks though!
