Ok Buckeyes, time to check in. I'm Karen, 48 years old and live in Upper Arlington and I LOVE to winter sow.

How about you? And if you want, what do you think about OSU raising prices on sports tickets? Arugh.

Hi bakemom, good to see you. Have you WSown anything yet? I hope all's well.

I'm another Karen, 57 years old, and live in Cincinnati. This is my 5th year wintersowing.

Luke, 62, retired and live in Wadsworth. I have daughters in Columbus and Montgomery, OH. I started WS this year, I'd have to scrape the snow off of the jugs to see if I have any sprouting yet. Doubtful. I can't wait to get outside in some warm sunshine. The prices of OSU tickets can go up as long as they are still on TV.

Judi here,72 and I live in northern Ashland county. This is my first year to try WS so I guess you're never too old to learn something new. I can't garden like I used to, or want to, but I still love it and love reading what others do. Between WS and flats started indoors, it is my winter blues therapy. Happy gardening to all!

RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

Hi Bakemom and other Buckeyes. I live in Lucasville. (Small town directly south of Columbus about 2 hours, almost to the Ohio River.) I am 43 and this is my 3rd year ws. I do love it and I have 7 newbie wsowing friends this year. With the help of a few others here we have supplied all of their seeds so they could get a good start. So much fun!

RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

Hi everyone! I'm Sandra, I'm 39 and I live in Wooster. Judy, Luke and I are practically neighbors! I really want to do a lot of WS this year, but next year I'll be in nursing school and won't have time to maintain what I start. I think I might just do minimal planting this year and focus on planning and maybe creating some new beds for later, but I really want to plant!

AS for OSU games - weren't they pricey enough already!?

It's nice to meet you all - look forward to hearing from all the other Buckeyes out there!

Sandra

Hi everyone,
I'm Margie and I live in Hilliard (NW suburb of Columbus). It's nice to hear from everyone. I'm new to WS and seem to have collected a surprisingly large number of seeds for someone who was just going to 'give it a try'. I've got to get some more containers...

RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

Is everyone prepared for the storm? I wish I could call off tomorrow and stay home to Winter Sow. Sounds like a good day to do it!

 o
RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

Hi all. I'm also from Cincinnati. Have sowed about 60 containers so far and I have about 20 to go. then I'll stop. Really. I will. I have to. I'm almost out of soil.

RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

I'm Kat or Kristina about to turn 30 and this is my second year Winter Sowing. I love it and can't wait to get outside again. I miss the sun and green things. I live in Cuyahoga Falls near Akron and am married to a Browns fan so I don't worry to much about OSU they are doing great by comparison. I wish I had more Winter sowing neighbors.

RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

Hi to everyone,
I'm in Cincinnati, and this is my first year wintersowing in my first "real" garden that I own. I hope wintersowing doesn't fail me, I've waited 13 years for this :) I've been gardening in containers, community gardens, apartment yards, borrowed land and abandoned lots, hoping WS will give me hundreds of plants to fill my new backyard! Hi to Karen who I've communicated with about my beds!

 o
RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

I'm Lynda from Jackson County (Southeast Ohio). This is my second year WSing and hopefully my last - I'm running out of planting space and lawn to dig up. :)

Can't wait for the spring bloom show to begin here. I've got so many WS perennials that should bloom for the first time this year.

I don't follow OSU sports but I'm a fan of their farm animal veterinary clinic. I guess that sort of counts as being an OSU fan. :)

I'm Ellen. I'm 56 and live in New Jasper Twp. which is just east of Xenia which is just east of Dayton. I live on 2 acres with my two dogs a Jack Russell and a Cocker. I have 2 grown daughters. I have a 50' x 25' vegetable garden and multiple flower beds, window boxes, hanging boxes, etc. Have been WS for about 8 years. Last spring I only got around to spring sowing. Since I'm snowed in this week-end I'm starting tomorrow. Drove to WalMart this afternoon in the snowstorm for soil. They were the only place that had it not frozen.

RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

I'm Lynne from Circleville, and I've sowed a whole 3 containers, all poppies! I still have to get the california poppies out, and I think I'll put out sweet alyssum and snaps. Other than that, I like to spring sow...

Hello Buckeyes! My name is Susan, I am in Athens County, Ohio and this my first year winter-sowing seeds. Currently I have about 67 containers of seeds planted, all perennials which include of all things; Goji berries! I also intend to sow annuals and vegetable plants for the garden. Will keep you posted on the Goji berries and how they do because I will probably hold them over for a 2nd year planting. Hope I can keep them alive!

 o
RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

Susan, Do you ever get to the farmers market in Athens on State St? My favorite. I have 2 daughters that went to school there and one still attending and living there. She likes the hills and will probably stay after graduation.

Hi everyone, My name is connie. I live in Stow, Kat we are neighbors. This is my first year wintering and I am addicted. I am wintersowing everthing I can get my hands on. I am sure I have made a bunch of mistakes but it will be interesting to see what sprouts come spring. If everything sprouts I will have gifts of baby plants for everyone I know :)

RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

Hey everyone! My name is Kris and I live in Stark County just outside Canton. This is my 2nd season wintersowing. After such great success last year I'm really looking forward to increasing my perennials in my bee-friendly beds. Though I've got everything all tee'd up in the basement, I have yet to sow a single jug. But then, I didn't start till mid-Feb last year and it certainly didn't seem to affect the sprouting. Looking forward to the fun. :-D

RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

Hi all you Ohioians,

I am looking for some hand holding during my first year wintersowing. I hope this might help other out there as well. What did you wintersow between dec 21 and march 1st? What will u sow in March?

 o
RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

Any Buckeye's seeing sprouts yet? When will the green wave hit the Buckeye state? I usually have lots of sprouts by the first of April. But I have never noticed when they first start showing up.
I still have more seeds to sow but I am anxious to start seeing sprouts in my jugs!

 o
RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

Glenna - I only have WS lupins popping up so far, but I also have my containers in a cooler spot than last year.

In warmer areas of the yard I've just started to some see my winter direct sowed seeds start to germinate over the last 2 days.

The next week or two should start to show a lot more sprouting activity for both my WS and DS seeds.

There is a get together forum? Cool thanks for the advice.
I will check it out.

 o
RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

Still no sprouts for me! My privacy fence blocks direct sunlight to my containers. Maybe soon. Last year by the first of April I had tons of sprouts.

 o
RE: Buckeye Roll Call 2010

Hi,
I have been getting new stuff everyday over the last couple days. feverfew, larkspur, standing cypress, convolvulus ensign, more lupines and poppies. It's very fun. My containers are in morning sun and afternoon shade, and we have been having some ideal weather. Hope you all are getting some also. :)

Glenna - I had nothing but those lupins until today. Today a bunch of dianthus and achillea popped up.

In the garden the direct sown poppies are springing up after the recent rains.
