| Seventy-two inches of snow & ice have fallen on this part of CT so far this winter. These are the most recent shots of my little green acre:
The snow is up to the window edge now--squirrels are coming right up to the window glass and looking in at me and the cats
Anyone remember the picture I posted a while back of the pretty new walkway I had laid down behind my garage? It's under there.
My breezeway--the container ghetto was under there last time I looked
My neighbor slogged through hip-deep snow and delicately took down some of the icicles
That's how deep the snow is on my front lawn
My first 50 WS jugs are under there somewhere
This is my snowtel; there are two or three levels of WS jugs one above the other.
The hump on the left is my new granite garden bench and that's the pure white rose of Sharon growing behind it that's about the same height as I am.

| Oh man, that makes me wish I still lived in MA. It's beautiful. We had about 14 inches total here in PA and now it's all melting away. Sigh. |

| Lois, you're nuts, lol! I wish we only had 14 inches of snow this year! I'm sick of it. Gardenweed, one thing I couldn't help but notice. I don't know if you've ever WSed before, and if you have you can ignore me because you must have a system and know what you are doing. However, I couldn't help but notice the writing on top of your milk jugs. Come spring, when you remove those tops, how will you know what's in the bottom? Do you have them labeled on the bottom too? By the way, you have extraordinarily nice printing, lol! How very neat and bold! As I was out chipping ice off the driveway today, I was looking around for a spot to put my WSing. I may have to actually dig out a space. Starting later than usual this year.... I've been spending all my spare time shoveling, lol. No time to WS yet! Have you had any leaks inside the house yet? |

| Hi Diggerdee! Lois, if you like the snow you can come on over and get as much as you want!! Gardenweed, great pics - it looks exactly the same here. The snowfall this winter has been phenomenal. I am thrilled that after we get our little bit of snow today, there is absolutely NO precipitation in the forecast for the next 7 days! :0) I've only sowed 12 containers back in December, and they are underneath this 5-foot pile of snow at the back of the house. There is nearly 3 feet of snow on the ground, and that pile is extra high because of snow that was shoveled off the roof. No more winter sowing has taken place since then. This is the corner of the deck and the bird feeders, which are becoming engulfed in snow. The baffles no longer work because the squirrels can easily jump over them. This is the street sign for a local nursery, surrounded by a huge bank of snow which is becoming typical for the roads and parking lots around here. This nursery has the right idea closing over the winter - I wish I was closed for the winter!!

| Wow,Eileen, your yard looks a lot like mine, actually, yours is way worst than mine, I just have a lot of snow, nothing pilled up to our windows,I know the icecicles can be dangerous, but they sure do look pretty out side your window.Lovely outside curtains. It is going to be a huge problem for many, when this all starts to melt,so much flooding will take place,as there is snow this year, where there should not be,and we all have more than we can handle. Our subpump will be working over time. At least today, the sun is out,but it is pretty darn cold, going down to -9,tonight. Thanks for the pictures, you always post such nice ones. cAROL |

| Hi Dee!! Ain't this just a swell winter? The snow is bad but I'm even more worried about when it begins to melt. That's a lot of water with no place to go with the ground still frozen except wherever it can find a little nook or cranny. My jugs are fine and they'll be fine once the snow melts. I read every single page of WS posts last year since it was my first year ever to WS. Does this answer your question about the labels?
There are labels with the seed name inside every jug. terrene - they're calling for 7 whole days of no snow here too. I'm not sure I know how to behave without snow falling that needs to be shoveled. Oh, and could we not talk about leaks just yet? cAROL - I'm sorry you'll have water problems too when all the snow begins to melt. I don't have a sump pump so I'll just end up with a flooded basement. A woman I work with got all excited about WS and is planting seeds with her daughters, who've suddenly decided they like drinking gallons of milk!! |

Where all this snow/water will go??? My containers are somewhere there in that corner behind the table |

| Wow. Here in South Carolina we had about 2" of snow on christmas day. That was my first white christmas ever!!! Then in January we had 8" (my biggest snow ever) wich got school canceled for me for 5 days! lol None since. Might be gettin 1" off this new storm. Yall northerners are gettin tons! Looks like Ol' Al Gore's got some tough explainin to do! |

| Hi Terrene! Well, gardenweed, never mind, lol - I see you've got the labeling thing all figured out! I wish you could come to my house and label my containers for me when I do them. I get very sloppy with my writing and yours look so nice and neat! Same here on the forecast - some flurries and not-quite-freezing (thank goodness!!) rain early today, and now we're hopefully free and clear for a week - although it IS going to be something like -14 degrees tonight. Oh well, at least no snow for a week! Then maybe we'll be past "the hump". I noticed today for that the first time in months that I could actually see the edge of the roof! I was happy for a moment, and then realized I should find and dig out the outlet for the sump pump, somewhere under the 3 feet of snow. And I guess I need to dig out the bottoms of the downspouts so the melting water has somewhere to go. Figures, we just finished renovating the basement. I guess this spring will be the test of our waterproofing system! Bad enough I have leaky roofs - I don't need a leaky basement, lol! Hoping to get started on my WSing this week. I said that last week and didn't get started, but with no new snow to shovel, perhaps I'll have a bit of free time, lol! Thanks for sharing your photos - helps to know I'm not alone! :) |

| Gardenweed, I'm so relieved we're not getting any rain or snow for at least a week - and according this article there we're headed for a warm up: Major Thaw, Snowmelt on the Way from Plains to East Dee, you're not alone with the snow or the roof leaks! I've had 3 of them - two in the kitchen and one in the back of the garage. The one in the garage is pretty bad, serious structural issues going on there combined with heat buildup in a crawl space above the garage, no soffit vents, and a northern exposure. UGH. At least the basement is nice and dry. |

| Terrene - I'm with you on the sunny forecast. I'm doing a happy sunshine dance!! I can honestly say if we didn't get another snowflake the rest of the winter I'd make a pagan sacrifice of some kind to the winter gods. It was just 12 degrees here this morning and despite the sunny day, it never got up to freezing so not much melting going on. It felt strange this morning driving to work on dry pavement instead of ice/snow. I normally take all back roads to avoid traffic but I've been avoiding the back roads because of the snow/ice and the fact even the main roads are half their normal width. Last night I reminded myself to be on the lookout this morning for black ice but I only came upon one patch of it. A lot of roofs are collapsing all around me under the weight of the icy snow--commercial buildings as well as homes. It'd be okay with me if we didn't have another winter like this again. I haven't been able to get to my bird feeders in weeks so I set up feeders on my breezeway. Poor critters are hungry! There will probably be some sunflower & safflower seedlings in some of my WS jugs. Here's the GOOD news: |
