Advice about moving

| Hi - 2 problems, one I am terrified to put my little seeds into the dirt in the cold... so that is making me indecisive. Second, I am in the middle of a move to be completed by March. I am moving to a house on 2 acres, no trees (well, not where I want them lol) It is a blank page - so I need to plant a lot, but I am not THERE yet... and afraid of killing what seeds I have...
Advice?

| G'nut, You know, the nice thing about gardening is that it is one of the most forgiving things you could ever do. Should you ever make a mistake it is so easy to redesign the whole thing over again or cull the area and set some adirondack chairs to cover it up and start in another spot, or better yet, live with it and laugh about it. Especially with 2 acres. :O) First, I would urge you to get over your 'seed in the cold' fear. Sow some containers this week. You don't have to do all your seeds, just a few to take that leap of faith and to have fun. Save the rest for when you get to your new place. Gardening is meant to be an adventure. Relax! And all the best in your new humble abode! |

"Just go to Memphis in the meantime baby"..no really. You are in a fantastic zone. I would be sowing those bottles and jugs with perennials, and taking them with me. You can get a whack of annuals started once you move to your new place, and plant them out as they sprout. The only thing you have to worry about is the expressions on the faces of the people who help move your w/s containers. |

live in Memphis area also. Golf and garden also. Have started all cool weather plants to be transplanted. This weekend started peppers and eggplants. Also wild strawberries. By first of March considering direct seeding like snow peas, radishes, ect. Last yr. first year of organic gardening with great success and now i am hooked. Memphis has great weather for fall gardening also. Last year wished I had planted more in fall. Will plant more this year. |

| Tiffy, to be honest, it never occurred to me I could "redo" anything - was trying to hard to make it right the first time. I have never lived anywhere more than 3 years, so... kinda hard to get a "permanent" attitude, thanks for the advice!! sd775, you started your peppers WS? I didn't realize they would grow if it was too cold... I was going to start them on the 6/7, but due to my move, have decided to set up in my new house on 24/25 FEB (best dates according to the farmers almanac) Keep me advised of your fall gardening dates, I want to do that as well, but don't have a good handle on this yet... lol (btw, don't golf anymore...but tedious to change my handle ;) lol G'nut |

| G'nut, our gardens are never finished, they are an ongoing changing process - forever rearranging, tweaking, editing. You'll be surprised to find your tastes change from time to time too, + add to that you'll be tempted by new introductions, have to move A to add B.... If you have trees, shrubs, perennials in mind, try to get a few of those going now as some of them won't only not mind the cold, they will need it before they germinate. |
