I have one or two rabbits running around our farm. Today I set up a fenced in area for my jugs because we have a feral dog that likes to chew up my stuff. We arrived home this evening after dark and I see a rabbit running from my jug area. Will he eat my seeds before they sprout?

bookjunkie4life, I have a Raccoon Threat. He/she keeps opening my trays. I don't want to tangle with it. |

Your lucky you only have 1 or 2 rabbits running around a farm!! When I first moved in to where I am it was just a few rabbits then a family then a few families, lol. I have to say I have never had any problems with the rabbits!! Now after I plant out and my plants get growing they LOVE to build nest in my flower beds, lol. I have a few pictures on my phone of a cute baby hiding in some of my gailardia. They flatten it down or as with my plumbago dig a little out. Very seldom eat my flowers!! Now my tomatoes, ugh, I don't know who to be mad at the squirrels or the rabbits!! Ladyrose, LOL I can't say as I blame you there. A lot of hunting activist say that the smell of human urine will deter deer and such. Maybe if that raccoon becomes a threat to you maybe you could ummm lol. I will leave that there!! LOL

I have squirrels stick their paws in and stir the dirt around, but the bunnies seem to behave. My two cats help patrol so I guess that helps. I feed critters and they leave my containers and garden alone for the most part.

Does the rabbit have special skills, like being able to untape the jug, then bend back its cover to get to the seedlings? If you think the wabbit has these skills then you should be wary, be very very wary.

Trudi - I close my jugs with pipe cleaners so there are gaps. I thought maybe he could reach in there and get some of the seeds. I borrowed a live trap from my uncle to try and trap and release him . . . far, far away. I can't believe they are around at all, given I have 6 outside cats and a feral dog running around all the time.
