How long you are going to let them grow before you transplant lettuce in the garden? I heard lettuce seedlings are very delicate and they don't like transplanting.

jaggudada--I have never had a problem transplanting the Romaine Lettuce. I do not transplant till they are several inches tall.

Went out with camera in hand, but alas, no sprouts yet! Zn5;sowed 2/13 and 2/26. As in other areas, this winters' temps & overall behavior has fluctuated wildly here. Had 10" of new snow two weeks ago, last week two days over 60 degrees!

Even though this is off-topic, I can report that everything else in the yard is re-emerging unusually early this spring, which is worrisome because we'll likely still have killing frosts to damage new growth.

I'll post sprout pics as soon as they get here!

Here are my sproutlets! I've opened the containers as some posters have suggested since we will be having temps in the mid 70s this week. I'm glad I did, since I had a few containers showing heat stress. I sowed about 100 containers (notice all the apple juice containers...can you tell I have toddlers? haha) and about 60 have sprouted.

So here's a question, I'm totally nervous about slugs eating my little guys. Should they be okay in their containers? I'm planning on getting some diatomaceous earth to spread around them, but till then...any advice?

This is so much fun! :)
