Hi Pearlgirl, I had the same result with my foxgloves. Yes I will plant them in chunks. I use the bottom of a one gallon plastic water bottle for my container, and I will divide it into 4 'hunks'. here is a link to Trudi's instructions re planting in hunks.
I've been experimenting with different ways of planting out in hunks, cuz I'm one of those that doesn't want to lose even one seedling. Sometimes I plant them out in a hunk, and then let them mature a little and then separate them.
I wintersow in clear plastic cups and usually a pack of seeds will go into two cups. I either slice down the side of the cup and put the whole shebang into the ground or wiggle as much out of the cup just like something I'd get at the garden center. I don't thin my seedlings either, pretty much the strong ones choke out the weak ones and I just let them do what they will. They say poppies don't like to be transplanted but I have wintersown poppies every year since I started and got nice blooms everytime. The real show begins when they reseed where you plant them and come back bigger and better next year!
