Fall sown/overwintered flowers: when to divide & repot?

I fall sowed some white campion and cardinal flower seeds and they all came up before it got cold and grew into some nice seedlings. So far they've been hanging out together in my unheated indoor porch. Question is, they are really crowded right now, so when should I divide them into bigger pots for this season? I'm hoping to share them with friends and others at a swap later in the summer. They're in a 16 oz coffee cup and a 3" pot right now, with about a dozen seedlings all mushed together. There's no growth right now, but maybe by the end of the month?

I don't really have an educated reply, but I would think that dividing them before they are actively growing would be less stressful than waiting. I'd split them ASAP.

HI Agnes,

I would just pot them up now but in a bigger pot. The roots can spread out when it's time and give them plenty of room.

Thanks! And since it's going to warm tomorrow, that's what I'm gonna do.
