| Well I know some of you advise totally against me planting out this early. Well I think each zone is different each person is different. A gardener knows when the time is right to plant out, and oops I may have waited a little long on my virginia stock.
While I was at it since the roots are reaching the bottom of my containers I decided to go ahead and plant out my lupine, black hollyhock, and soapwort.

| Thank you all!! I think next year the lasagna pan is the way I am going to be doing most of my sowing. I had the most success out of it and they were the first of the seedlings to start sprouting. Top two pictures are from the lasagna pan and comforter bag!! |

| Congrats Carolyn! I used the lasagna pans year before last and had an EXCELLENT turn out! I love how large they are. ~Wendy |

| Go Ahead, Caroylyn! Mine are still tiny. I will have to seperate the Foxglove and Campunula's. They are fighting for room. |
RE: I am planting out!!

| The rain demolished half of my foxglove seedlings so they aren't fighting anymore. And you know I meant to plant some more baloon flower and I never did. I also meant to plant some more ruellia. Now I feel as it is to late!! So many things I forgot to plant, here is a kicker though I purchased some gooseneck and I be dern I never sowed one seed and I think I gave the pack of seeds away thinking I planted some cause I can find them no where. Oh me how crazy am I!! |

| You guys I know ya are going to think I am crazy, but that virginia stock has a bud on it. I thought it was about to bud, and that is why I decided to plant it hoping it wasn't to late. Well ya know I was right cause those are buds on that little gal. Hopefully in a about a week I can show you guys some winter sown blooms. I took a picture but it really doesn't show up that great since it is so small. I will take another picture when it gets a little bigger. Everything seems to be doing wonderful over here, and the lupines are still developing, so I am happy!! |

| Countrycarolyn, Ruellia really likes the heat. It won't even bloom until the temperatures stay above 70 degrees and then it will bloom steadily until the temperatures drop again. So I would still sow ruellia. Or since I sowed two or three species of ruellia, I may be able to send you some later on this spring, depending on how they do. What soapwort did you sow and where did you get seed for it? I'm thinking of doing a semi shady bank in cote d'azure pinks soapwort, but I've never seen seed for them, KimKa |
RE: I am planting out!!

| Ya know I got the soapwort in an sasbe when I was a newbie, so the seeds are from then. It was labeled soapwort, so I am assuming it is the saponaria officialis, I think that is how you spell the botanical name. I may have some seeds still left over, I sowed this patch extra heavy because I was going to give some seedlings to my sister and some to my father. Here is what is left with some mexican tea after I planted that hunk out the other day.
You know I was sitting and thinking this morning and kicking myself that I didn't plant several things. So I have the next 2 days off and my plan is to get the rest of my sowing done. If it gets to hot I will move it to some shade. I am throwing caution in the wind!! |

| I'm pretty much in the same area as you, Carolyn - haven't planted out, except cool weather veggies in containers (my baby pak choi, lettuce, & mizuna that I wintersowed are all doing great!) Reason I haven't done any inground planting? Clay & critters - anything too small disappears or shrivels up quickly. So, I am waiting until things get a skosh bigger (& trying to amend as much soil as possible) - my sunflowers are almost ready to go. |

| Drippy now is the time to plant in clay. It is so nice and soft some seedlings I planted I just pressed my finger in the dirt and plopped them in the hole, no shovel needed. Here in about a month I will be mad and kicking myself harder when the plants I am about to sow start sprouting and I have to actually break the ground with a shovel and chop it up. I do not know if my dirt is considered clay, even though I always say it is, but one thing I do know for sure, it is concrete when it warms up and dries out. |
