I only winter sowed for the first time last year but lupines were one of the first to sprout for me. One plant did bloom 3rd week of September but the others didn't. I expect they'll all bloom in May-June this year.

Thanks gardenweed. That's what I thought, but I was hoping otherwise (we're moving at the end of the summer, so I won't get to see the fruits of my labor). O well. Maybe I'll try a few in containers and move them with us.

Word has it they're impossible to transplant but if they're in containers, I don't see why they wouldn't transplant into the ground. How else can garden nurseries sell them to people? I potted up quite a few of the ones I grew via winter sowing last year and hope to find permanent homes for them this year but I certainly expect them to survive going from pots to the comfort of Mother Earth.

Supposedly you can.. but I doubt winter sowing them you can..

Silverkelt - those are spectacular!!! What type of soil are they growing in? Do they keel over when the wind blows or you get heavy rain? My 'Chandelier' got beat to the ground last year but the neighbor's flowers never flinched. She's got them growing in sand which I've heard they prefer.

No, Ive had no issue with them bending over for the most part.. not this time..

All of my beds are converted woodlands.. underlaid with sand, acidic soil.. with lots of roots lol.. Ive hualed in about 4 tons of manure and compost to overlay all of my beds.. its going to be several years work to get my beds where I want them...

Oh wow! I am in LOVE with those Tutti Frutti's!!! I'm gonna have to go shopping for more seeds now! lol Those and Morello Cherry variety are just gorgeous!! And I really love the unique shape of the leaves.
