They are biennials..

I have some sporadic smattering of them over my garden here and there.

Hi Ladyrose, I've ws'd lots of Columbines, none have ever bloomed the first year. Supposedly the "Origami" series will bloom the first year from seed, but they didn't for me. In fact most of those didn't even make it through the first winter! Most Aquilegia will bloom well the 2nd year, although I've had a few seedlings that I didn't plant out of their containers until the early fall and those didn't bloom until the 3rd year.

Thanks Silverkelt and Terrene. I will be waiting next year. Other than pictures, I've only seen them at the nursery!
