 o
too late winter sow the rest of my tomatoes?

Hey all! First time here. I winter sowed some tomatoes way back in January and already have true leaves! But, I saved the bulk of tomatoes and all zinnias and impatiens to do now. The catch is that the weather is crazy warm and I have been leaving the tops off the milk jugs. So, my question is should I plant the rest of my tomato seeds in cups without a top? Or, should I do it in the milk jugs and take off the top once I get germination? It is almost 2 months to the frost date so we could get a cold spell. Any help appreciated?

to be on the safe side winter sow them in jugs as you did the others, the second batch will catch up to the first, :)

No way is it too late. I just sowed mine a few days ago.

I agree with Alberta- use something with a lid. I'm still closing mine at night. Not because temps are cold, but to deflect some of the monsoon rain and hail that we're getting several times a day.

I'm hardening off 4 tomatoes started in Jan - I have about 9 total, so super ready to get rid of some.

Will plant them after direct sun is past, put up the supports and cover with agribon19. It's just an experiment, in case the weather goes on like this without great change - if they make it, after only 2 days of hardening off - and cooler weather comes, I'll pop some platicated greenhouse thingy on top.....

But I have too many in the house too big - I was experimenting with production under lights - but just had indeterminate, big plants....next winter, I'll buy some special container tiny plants to continue on with the experimenting....

I too need to start some of my main crop tomatoes for summer....so perhaps I will do the winter sowing too....as you all say it isn't too late...
