Lining large containers with gravel???

I have some gallon sized plastic tubs for barbeque - they are about 9" tall -

My question is???

Can I put about 4" of gravel in the bottom and then the soil, so I don't use so much soil in each container????

Thanks in advance!!

As long as your use a minimum of 3" of soil, that should be fine. I wouldn't bother with gravel under that.

Thanks Karen!!

I didn't know if the gravel would mess with the magic of winter sowing!
