The info I saw said start skull cap in late spring. The ice plant I know first hand does not need cold to germinate.

penstemons,echinaceas,pulsatilla and alliums depending on which ones need a cold period.I would put them in the fridge in a baggy with perlite, same with echinacea..

I looked these up online so you may want to wait for some first hand knowledge...

Oh, thanks so much for the information Lisa! I will go ahead and plant the scullcap and ice plant as soon as possible (ie as soon as I can raid the neighbors recycle bin, lol!).

That is good to know about the rest- and that I can store them in the fridge to mimic outdoor cold period. Is the perlite used to wick away excess moisture? Anything else you could use in place of it?

The medium you put in the little zip lock is to provide needed moisture - the chill has to be moist to be helpful. Just damp, like a wrung out sponge moist, not soggy. That's if you want to get them started and not wait until next winter. Refrigerated dry is storage.

Damp sterile sand or damp sterile vermiculite work too, and you only need a tsp or two, seeds don't have to be completely buried. Date the bag, when the time is up you can sow the contents sand and all.
