Ever want to eat your seeds???

I just got my Nigella sativa seeds (Black Cumin) from Diane's. These are the wonderful aromatic seeds that can be found on the best rye breads, and that's why I want to grow my own. I recently bought a bread machine so I can make it at home.

These seeds smell so outrageously good that I almost can't wait for my own harvest. Diane's is so generous, I'll probably sow about a dozen seeds or so and I will have about 2-3 hundred left over. Does anyone here know if these seeds are edible? I can't imagine that they would have been treated with anything.

Have you ever made your own rye bread with these seeds on top?

They are edible

Just got a reply from Diane, the seeds are edible and organically grown in her own garden. Some to WS, some to bake with, how wonderful is that! My house is going to smell like a good Jewish delicatessen, and my garden will have some pretty little flowers before long.

Yeah, before I read your reply, I was going to suggest you contact Diane's. I had the same situation with garlic - the amount I purchased from Pinetree Seeds was more than I could plant. I asked if the rest was safe to eat, and they assured me it was. So, I did!

(adds Nigella sativa to next year's grow list...)

I bought a pack of naked seeded pumpkin seeds to grow. They have 'snack' written all over them.
