Let The Sunshine In

Hi everyone,

With all this warm weather, I've been trying to hurry and get all my perennial seeds planted. For example, today I planted Feverfew, Amsonia AKA Blue Stars, Liatris (the common purple kind I believe, the packet was just labeled Liatris), Siberian Iris, Swamp Milkweed, Wild Bergamot, and Butterfly Bush. I have lots more to do, mostly annuals. I'm discovering more sprouts each day, a few new ones here and there but mostly more are appearing in the containers that have already sprouted.

Hopefully, my sister will want a garden planted this year and she said the place she, her boyfriend and her kids are moving into has a BIG yard :). Need I say more? LOL

Out of the containers I planted today, the one I'm most excited about is the Butterfly Bush. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it sprouts!

Most of what I have planted/am planting, I have never seen or heard of before. It's just adding to the fun!

Brad, can you send me some Swamp Milkweed. I would like to try just a little. I never heard of Amsonia, sounds like you got some really interesting stuff.

Ladyrose, if Brad doesn't have any left, send me an email w/address and I'll send you some. My Newbie pack had more than I could use, you're welcome to it. My email should be in my member profile,
Dean

Ladyrose, I'm sorry, I just sowed the last of it today :(. However, it looks as if you have a trade with Dean :). I never heard of Amsonia either until I got a pack of it in an earlier trade. I looked it up and it's a native wildflower and it looks pretty.

Hi Brad,

Wow, you are doing great. I got something called Liatris squarrosa from everwilde.com back in August and I've got sprouts now! I have read that it is a short liatris native to my area though I don't think that I have ever seen any liatris in the flesh. I have read that it does not like being moved so I sowed it in a plastic flower pot with a plastic bag on top, holes punched in plastic bag. Happy Spring to be!

Here is a link that might be useful: sprouts of Liatris squarrosa
