Brad, I just read the news article. I just potted my mini roses. I'm bringing them in the house.

Forecast for N. CT calls for 6-12 inches before it ends late Friday. I'll believe it when I pay my neighbor to plow the driveway for what seems like the 50th time this year. The only thing keeping me from screaming is I found salvia n. sprouts-- GREEN ones--this afternoon. The soil in most of my containers is still frozen brick-hard but this one was sitting off the back of my breezeway where it got enough sun to thaw the growing medium.

Yes, this is REALLY starting to get to me. The snow, ice pellets, and rain... it seems it will never stop (or dry up)... I hope we don't skip from this to summer, missing a real spring. amy

We ended up with 4 inches of snow, which then all promptly melted by 4 PM, nice April Fools day prank, eh? I was wondering though, do you guys usually move your seedlings in out of the snow? I didn't, they seem fine. I guess I just figured if they can take the mid 20's temps we had last week, they could take the snow as well.

My containers stay right where they are on my breezeway--wind, rain, snow, ice--whatever Ma Nature dishes out. Snow is a free & effortless source of moisture for WS containers. They get zero pampering. Very few have germinated so far because it's mostly shaded plus this spring has been about 30 degrees colder than last. Out of nearly 300 milk jugs, only lettuce, lupine and salvia have sprouted so far.
