probably in the next couple of weeks. i found that no matter when i sowed hosta - December to March - they all came up in the first weeks of April. PV

Yvonne, glad you asked this because, I thought they would be the first to sprout, since they are shade tolerant, spring thru Fall plants.
RE: ws hosta

Yeah I was thinking I should be seeing sprouts or at least very soon.
RE: ws hosta

ditto what PV said--I checked my sprout chart for last year and the two types of hosta seeds I WS on 12/25 sprouted within days of each other on April 17 & 21. They grow v-e-r-y slowly but they're the cutest darn sprouts of any I've seen. Wish I'd taken pictures but I didn't.

I think mine sprouted a bit later, but what I got out of them was great. The siblings were the most beautiful blue/green with thick huge leaves (took 4 years to see their full potential) and if given the opportunity to do what I want, some will be moving with me this spring.

ymaddox - check out growing hosta from seed on the Hosta Library website. There are lots and lots of photos of hosta seedlings at different stages.
Here is a link that might be useful: Growing hosta from seed outdoors

The ground needs to be a bit warmer, give them a few more weeks,Some of mine, are just now starting to poke thier heads out of the ground, they will not all emerge at the same time,so patiences all you need, :0) I know, we are all hungry for spring eh cAROL |

... we are all hungry for spring cAROL - you said a cotton-pickin' mouthful!!! But altho' I'm hungry for warmer temperatures, I'm not looking forward to the monsoon rains we normally get and more cellar flooding. PV - those are the most adorable sprouts! Mine that I grew from seed before I discovered WS looked similar and I sure hope they come through the winter again.

Just had to say I approve. Love the pics too. I'm not sowing any hosta this year but I did the last two years in a row. Time to watch my adorable babies grow up. : )I'm looking forward to seeing how they have grown this year.
