What temp to take my tops off?

haha

I'm sure everyone has their own temp in mind that works for their zone. I'm in GA and lately we've been having 70-78 degree weather (which is kinda nuts for March!!)

What temps do you take YOUR tops off? Mine are all in shade and vented with side vents and the top of the 2liter hole. My standard temp last year for top removal was 80. I didn't have anything wither up and die til AFTER I took off the tops so this year I really want to get it right!!

We will get cool again a few times, maybe down to freezing.. maybe not. Ya never know with Ga weather..

Do any of you have set temps you look for?

Thanks!
~Wendy

My top is already off!!

I have been watching the weather and here in tennessee we weren't suppose to drop below 40, well either tonight or tomorrow night we are dropping to 32. To be honest I am not worried about it, my seedlings have started looking so much better since I took their top off, that I refuse to put it back on. I seriously mean I refuse!! Lazy, obstinate I let you choose.

Since I took my top off it has been like they grew in a day what they were growing in a week with the top on. Girl since you are in Georgia I say go topless!!

I agree - go topless
My tops are off as soon as they sprout, and I am in NJ, with temps expected be a low of 21 tonite.

of course these are perenniels, no annuals out yet.

I took my tops off about a week ago in zone 7b - Albuquerque New Mexido - and we have had a few nights down into the 30's with no harmful effects.

I have tops off the germinated plants, and tops on the ungerminated and into the shade. This helps me keep things more moist.
