Please post here AFTER the other thread is full!!

the definition of a "container" ???
well it's very loosely defined as:

#1... If you use toilet paper rolls, newspaper pots, plant bands, paper cups, peat pots, etc and pack these together under one cover, then perhaps the best way to count these is to count the number of different seeds sown.
Example : 10 different kinds of seeds sown under 1 cover could be counted as 10 containers.

#2... 50 seeds sown in a milk jug or other larger container should count as 1 container.

Posting container count:

Please post only NEW containers and not a running total.
Example: If your 1st post is 30 containers and you later sow another 30 containers your 2nd post should reflect only the additional 30 containers.
You can post your total as long as you indicate the number of new containers.
Example: "Zone 5 : Add 30 more containers for me. My total is now 60. "

Remember to add your zone to each post so we can see totals by zone.

I will update the totals on a regular basis and start a new post as needed.

Hi all,
Please add 20 more for zone 4. That makes a total for me of 102 so far.

Still have lots of annuals to go. I'm out of containers though so need to find more! Some stuff is starting to sprout now too, so exciting!! I wish I had more time to sow, it's been slow going for me this Spring.

Add two more to Zone 5. I didn't want to do it, but the dh was being "helpful" and meant to put my box of seeds out in the garage and they only made it as far as the patio table where they got rained on.
These two are the only ones that were wet enough to stick to the paper.

gotta love the man, but sometimes.......

RE: The Official 2009/210 Container Count-part eight

170 more for Zone 6! :)

Zone Lynda total for this year is 1408 and I think I'm finished. Hooray! That's over 5000 containers in two WS seasons.

Expect far far fewer containers from me in future years. I think I've got a lifetime supply of flowers now so future sowing should be limited to veg, fruits and herbs. At least I hope so! :)

Heh, heh. Yup. Okay Lynda, if you say so.... :)

Another 5 for zone six please! I'm really crawling to a finish this year - if I ever DO finish!

Add 38 for zone 5, please.

I was holding out for the last minute because the weather has been so bad that I haven't done any annuals yet, but I guess I won't have them done in time to be included for the count this year. Bummer.

 o
RE: The Official 2009/210 Container Count-part eight

Got an early start today. I guess that's all that will make it into the count for this year. I'm almost done, anyway... I think!

30 more for zone 5.

I'm done, grand total 420. I finally did it, reached the goal of under 500.

Took seven years, but, better late than never and far fewer that over 1,000 that i did for the first 3 years.

RE: The Official 2009/210 Container Count-part eight

I think we are done with the count on May 1st, is that right?
-B

 o
RE: The Official 2009/210 Container Count-part eight

Yes, as far as I'm aware it stops as of May 1st. I looked it up a while back because I started WS on December 13 and didn't count the first 30 containers I did prior to December 21 in the "official" count, just in my own overall total.

RE: The Official 2009/210 Container Count-part eight

Haven't been here in a while, and just checked the final tally. Zones 5 and 6 were close for a long time, but it looks like we pulled away for the win : )

Brandy, thank you so much for keeping track of all of those posts. You did a great job!!! Very nice of you to volunteer. Just want you to know that I appreciate all of your time and effort!

RE: The Official 2009/210 Container Count-part eight

This is my very first year Winter Sowing and after the first container and many hours of reading posts on GardenWeb I now have 73 containers planted! I am so excited to see sprouts that I can hardly contain myself:)

 o
RE: The Official 2009/210 Container Count-part eight

Not sure how long you'll be keeping track of the count and when the cut-off is. I just got done winter sowing the last of my perennials but still have my annuals to do in another week or two. I didn't post my count before because I just thought I'd wait until the perennials were done. I have 46 jugs for zone 6. I'll post my annuals after I finish those. Thanks for keeping track off all of our containers, Brandy!
