This doesn't bode well . . .

. . . for my neighborhood nurseries!! I am having so much fun and becoming so addicted to W's that I can't imagine I'll spend one dollar at my local nurseries or garden centers this year! If I plant out only 1/4 of what I've sown I'll have more plants than I've ever had and I will be saving hundreds of dollars in the process.

I'm really surprised WS is not more universally practiced. This is the first year I learned of it and I'm totally hooked!

And now you know how we got addicted. Next year you'll start thinking about all of the unusual plants you just couldn't afford before or knew you couldn't start from seed, and think well for only a few dollars or a nifty trade I could have five or six of those or more...oh boy.

Then, you start telling the friends and neighbors "just try this little bag of seeds, you'll like it." And you'll find your self carrying baggies so you can grab a handful of interesting seeds from odd places.

Welcome to wintersowing.

LOL kim--I just can't understand why more people don't do this. And why I never heard of this process before this past winter.

About 1/5 of my containers have sprouted. Every day I giggle when I look in and see more growth. Yeah, I'll be "pushing" this method in the near future.

I still spend money at nurseries, or online or both. what wintersowing does is free up cash, so I can purchase other items, like roses ect.

we have a local nusery here that we go do every year on thier opening weekeend, we always purchase a few things there as well. They offer pony rides for the kids and bbq and stuff. Last year was a peony , some strawberry plants ect. Sure I dont have to, but its still fun to bring home a few things.

Yeah Silverkelt, me too. No matter how much I wintersow I always seem to find lust for some new things every year, especially if they don't reporduce from seed.
