| When does WS become Spring Sowing? I am seeing sprouting in my garden. Lots of things are coming up. Is it spring yet? Three inches of rain the other day and it is pouring right now! Can someone say mud!

| I consider Spring sowing to be the first of Spring! I'll be doing more than the usual amount of spring sowing this year, because I've done very little winter-sowing this winter. Too much snow! Only in the last few days has the snow melted enough to reach the container area. In early April, I get serious about the annuals and veggies. I sow those in cups, line them up in plastic boxes, and put them up against the south side of the foundation of the house. That's the warmest microclimate in the yard and I don't bother covering those seeds. Even if there is a frost, it doesn't seem to reach up against the foundation. If we got a really hard freeze, maybe I'd throw a sheet over them. |
