I've got a diagram of my flower gardens in my blog post at the link below.

I like having access paths, but prefer bare soil to rock. More comfy to sit on and easier to keep weed free for me.

I don't have the path worked out yet but this is #1 on my hit list for 2011. Up until I had a rough-cut granite bench set in it last year, this bed was 30 ft. square with rows upon rows of peonies, daylilies, spring bulbs & miscellaneous perennials. I cut it in half diagonally, set the bench in the center and curved the edge on either side. I'll fill in the open areas this year with the end goal being a more interesting area without the geometric shape.

That's a mature lilac on the right; to the left behind the bed is a 40 ft. long/wide row of mature hydrangea. The goal is to draw the eyes of passersby, make them smile and want to take a closer look.
