| I've been planting out HOS of my perennial flowers, and I've also planted out my HOS leaf lettuce and 48 cauliflowers; all of which are doing nicely so far.
Yesterday I checked my veggie gallon jugs and found many tomato sprouts. One jug of beafsteak I obviously sowed way too thick. I could have gotten 50 tomatoes out of that one jug if I'd planted every sprout. I planted the 14 biggest ones and tossed the rest, because I have several more jugs of that variety coming. I ended up planting out 33 tomato sprouts. I cut the bottoms out of liter soda jugs and a few half gallon milk jugs and placed those over the seedling and plant marker. Trudi's website says to use small water bottles, so I hope I haven't messed up by using the larger bottles? Am I too early for my zone to be planting out tomatoes? I have close to an acre or so of garden tilled up and I'm already running out of room! |

| If they sprouted, they can be planted out. But keeping the covers on in case of a frost is a good idea. Martha |

| bookjunky - make a note about the Frost Saint's days--May 11, 12, 13. According to the Farmer's Almanac, there is always a frost on one or all of those days. How do I know? Last year I read the Farmer's Almanac article about the Frost Saint's days...on May 13 when they posted it and the day after my hydrangeas got zapped by frost the night before. Needless to say, I was just a bit "frosted" they failed to post that article on May 10 when I could have DONE something to protect my hydrangeas. Lesson learned...need I say the hard way? |

| Toss a old towel over those jugs when the temps dip and they should be just fine. My first tomato sprouts came up today planted seeds 3/22. ML |
