I am so very thankful for finding this forum

I am so thrilled that I came across wintersown.org and this forum about a year ago. I couldn't believe that I could save seeds from my own plants, (a gardener who ALWAYS bought plants at the nursery but knew how to divide them in the spring) and plant them in jugs in the winter when I was craving gardening and then have them sprout and grow in their container to the point where they need to go into the ground. I can't wait to see my gardens in July and August. I am very thankful for all of you who have been so generous with their seeds and generous with their knowledge. Love you guys and this forum!!!

I second that! I always bought annuals because I had no room inside to start things. Who knew I could do it outside! I have seedlings coming out my ears right now. I just hope I don't kill them when I transplant them :)

I never had luck starting seeds indoors. I always lost them to damp or neglect. Now, they thrive on neglect. :)

I'm adding my voice to this sentiment! I had stopped buying flats of annuals years ago to economize. New perennials? Only if I could get divisions. And then this crazy idea of mine to create a bee and pollinator sanctuary? On MY budget? Stumbling into this forum, embracing the concept (gardening in jugs? in the middle of winter?), the idea of saving seeds and exchanges. That would have been gift enough. But the friends? The camaraderie? The humor and support? Priceless! Thank you Trudi, D. et al Here's a big HUG to all of you wonderful, warm and wacky WSers on this forum. :-D Kris (who is pretty much getting that wacky thing down cold!)

| The only thing better than being able to fly your freak flag, is being able to do it with others, who embrace you for it. Kris couldn't be more right... Priceless!

Two Thumbs up for your sentiments Clarejo. I used to hang out in Garden Junk and now I am spending all my time here! Who knew WS could be so much fun and folks would cheer you on in your efforts. I love this forum! Mary

With a grateful heart I thank you all. I had ordered all the plants I could afford in January and thought that was it, can't have anymore, the completion of the new bed plans will just have to come up short.Major repairs on our house were in the works and we are having to tighten the old belt. Then I found WSers and a whole new world opened up. We don't have any place to do a set up indoors so WSing is such a gift. Thank you! The icing on the cake for this newbie is, I HAVE SPROUTS! My first. I found Rose Companion and the white Foxglove have been born. Little green gifts wrapped up in a plastic jug package. Thanks for all the encouragement and support. Elizabeth

I MUST WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE !!! This has been SUCH fun and made winter go by really fast. Logging on here on those bitter cold mornings and hearing everyone keeping up each others spirits and encouraging one another made my first winter retired a better gift than I dreamed. I said how fast winter went the other day and my neighbor said, are you nuts? It's been so long. I thought, I've been gardening all spring...and with friends...what more could you ask for? I just hope to keep the babies alive through this horrible next few days and then think it'll be uphill from there re: weather. Thanks for the friendship, encouragement and new hobby (obsession) :)

And let me just add: This forum is terrific and I have found a new way to spend retired winters doing something productive (that's for Teequilt). Great people, great advice, and wonderful surprises in the bottles. Thanks, all. Prof

The whole winter sowing concept is so wonderful to learn about!! Before WS I'd never even thought of trying to grow some of these plants from seed. Everyone has been so helpful and supportive and it is fun to just read the posts and see what nutty things everyone is up to!! Dumpster diving anyone? Thanks especially to Bake Mom and Token and Brandymulvaine and everyone who has sent me all kinds of wonderful seeds to plant. I am so excited about seeing what I've grown, since much of it will be a big surprise! Brandi even included seeds to plant goodies for Speckles Chicken!! Thanks to all!! Debby

Me too, me too! This forum is great. I love gardening, but don't have enough room for growlights or a greenhouse set up and I don't have a basement. I thought I was doomed to forever buy starts for the veggie garden and a few bulbs or annuals (unless I got them for free, of course). Now, my deck, useless in the winter, is covered in sprouts growing in jugs rescued from the recycling bin. I, too, am going to have more plants than I know where to put them. It will be fun to see how they turn out. Thank you for all the support, and the seeds, too. I've even spread the word about winter sowing and have a few converts in my neighborhood. Freaks of the forum, unite!

I opted for a growing table rather than a Buffet/China Cabinet in the dining room and didn't grow anything inside this year because of the money spent on lighting up every day. I joined GW just 3 weeks ago and found all you junkies-now I can't wait for the kids to drink the gallons of milk I buy so that I can fill them with dirt and seeds!! (I get to fill about 4 containers a week!) Thanks for all your knowledge and great threads-you may be junkies but are special junkies to me!! BTW, I'm not giving up on the "buffet" just yet-I will probably do both next year!!! I do have a newbie question-- when I put the top layer of dirt over the seeds per the instructions in the FAQ's, do I water that top layer? If so, wont that water disturb the seeds underneath (push the seeds further down into the container? Should I use a spray bottle for the top layer? thanks, Susie
