Is it too late to Spring Sow some Shirley & Peony Poppies? I was very busy this past winter and did not get to winter sow anything. I directed sow some poppy seeds in late April and nothing has sprouted (birds probably ate the damn seeds...LOL.

RE: Spring Sowing Poppies

Gladys: You may not get any poppies this year. I too, forgot about my poppies until early May and nothing has come up. Mine are in pots and protected. Last year I had similar results: poppies sowed in early April germinated, those sowed in May never showed up. I read somewhere that poppies need a cold period for germination, so I've given up on expecting any. Let's see what others have to say.
