Finally...spring in Ontario

After such a long, cold, snowy, brutal winter I was expecting an early, breezy spring. But not so. It continued to be cool, rainy, windy, even had a frost warning a few days ago. But after a couple of days with warm afternoon temps. almost all of my containers are showing signs of growth. I experimented with winter sowing some veggies. this year and I have sprouts of spinach, swiss chard, and cilantro which I usually left until later. The one thing that sprouted true to form were the lettuces, some of which I planted out today. The dandelions and wild violets are taking over the lawn, the squirrels have bitten off all of my tulip blooms in the front garden, and I find the earth very dry. My tomatoes grown indoors were hit with spider mites, and I think about 2 have survived, but I have lots of peppers, eggplants, cukes and squashes to plant out. Now the real work begins!!
