Identification Please?

Hello everyone: Since the weather here has been so wet and cold and I cannot yet plant out, I decided to do something recommended in an article I saw in the winter. It was called something like "Put down that rake" and directed gardeners to wait until all the re-seeders had done their work, and select re-seeds rather than re-sow. I started doing this and I am amazed of the number of seedlings I have gathered that way. Last week I realized that my Agastache had not survived the winter, but today, I found about three seedlings way across the other side of my backyard. So there are lots of things I am wondering about and the pic. below is one. My NGS (non-gardening son) insists it's a weed. It looks familiar to me but I can't place it. Can anyone help?
It's about 6 inches in diameter now. Thanks.

Those sure look like Dandelions to me. Many people consider them a weed. But there are also those who think of them as an important medicinal herb.

Nope, not Dandelion. Dandelion leaves are more 'pointy'. Gaillardia? I was also thinking Geums, but think they have fuzzier leaves... Another possibility is perennial poppy...

Maybe a scabiosa or knautia (I *always* get those two mixed up)...?? Dee

Pixie, it's not a dandelion - I have lots of them in my lawn, and Tiffy, it's not a perennial poppy because I have a large clump of them nearby, but it could be a Gaillardia. My notes from last year list 2 Burgundy Gaillardia and 2 'Dazzler' planted out and I have not been able to locate the 'Dazzlers', so that's a real possibility. I'll hold on to it for a bit longer and see. Dee, I don't think I've ever planted scabiosa or knautia, so they are unlikely. Thanks Tiffy, nice to see you on the Forum.

Limonium sinuatum/Statice?

Looking at the plant in the photo and my own gaillardia, I'm coming down on it being blanket flower (altho' my first thought was dandelion). I checked and wasn't surprised to learn both are in the same family Asteraceae. I guess blanket flower is the 'golden child' while dandelion is the wild child. Oh the childhood memories of digging dandies out of the lawn on father's orders!

I am now totally confused. I'll wait a bit longer and see what happens. Problem is, it is in quite a prominent spot. Thanks everyone.

The folks over at the Name that Plant forum are very good and could probably ID it for you fairly quickly. Good luck.

There's a healthy dandelion top left of your picture for comparison.

Thanks for the info. Jaynine. I didn't know they existed. This one, along with two others I found yesterday are now safely in their hands. And yes, Flora, there are many dandelions in our area since the pesticide ban. We just have to dig 'em out!!!
