Yes, you can enjoy WS snapdragons. They are later, but still fun--and certainly easier than growing under lights. I also find that many snapdragons will over-winter if you mulch them through the coldest part of winter, they will rebloom. You just have to trim off the frost damaged tips.

Patreesh, I was just looking at mine. They are starting to tick me off, along with some others. Very small. I'm thinking I'm going to have get some at the nursery.

Marigolds, I don't know what's wrong with mine. I got 3 sprouts out of 3-containers. I got to go the nursery for them too.

I remember seeing someone compare WS seedlings and the same of those started indoors, and at the start of the season the indoor ones were much larger. However, mid-season, the WS ones took off and grew much larger and vigourous than the ones started inside.

So...don't give up on them yet!

The wintersown ones will start blooming later, but won't fizzle out by the middle of the summer the way the greenhouse or indoor started ones will. They will still be vigorous in the fall.

Looking at last year's records, my snapdragons were planted out in May, and were just tiny sprouts. They started blooming the first week of July, and were still blooming when we had our first frost.

If you are looking for something to bloom between the time the tulips and daffodils are finished, and the time the summer bloomers start, try wintersowing some earlier blooming annuals, such as poppies or pansies.

Nice to hear from more experience WS'ers, as I was wondering the same thing with my tiny snapdragon sprouts too. Now I will definitely put them into the windowboxes that was reserved for them.

Thank you all for your encouraging words and good advice. I love ladyrose's description of being ticked off at the seedlings. Reminds me of myself - telling plants to shape up or get out - survival of the fittest. Feel that as I'm getting older, and because the growing season is shorter, I want to enjoy the flowers without having to wait until the first frost!
