There're also a lot of variables to take into account, such as plant type, size, location, how well it's established and the immediate soil temp. Humidity, cloud cover, wind, and daytime temps, mentioned in the article, make a huge difference in this area and, along with paying close attention to the dewpoint, are the deciding factors for me as to whether to cover things or not. Plus, there's quite a difference between a frost - even a killing frost - and a hard freeze. The only time I've ever lost plants to a killing frost (when I wanted to keep them going) was when I tried the watering thing.
