Cutworms in my containers grrrr

I've had three different containers of seedlings that cutworms have gotten into this year and one of them was up on my balcony. I don't know how a cutworm found his way up there and into my container but it did.

I noticed that several of my seedlings had the leaves eaten off and just the stems were left so I looked through the soil in the containers expecting to find slugs but all three times, I found a big fat cutworm buried just beneath the top of the soil. Just wanted to warn everyone to watch for them. They are worse some years than others and I'm beginning to suspect this is going to be a bad year here, not just for my winter sown seedlings but other plants as well.

I planted out several virtually leafless echinacea seedlings yesterday and a few purple milkweeds. The other container had some little lemon tree seedlings that I can't plant out because of my zone. They were going to be houseplants. : (
