Need FAST advice!!

So i planted all my jugs that germinated (about 150 milk jugs roughly) and i did it "brownie style". So each brownie has about 20 seedlings in each and now i'm out of brownies and have TONS of empty space to fill! Eek! Should i go back and tear each brownie in half? I planted each brownie about 10" apart. I want a full look as soon as possibly. Mostly i have planted: shastas, rose campion, delphiniums, pansies, snow in summer, alyssum. Please anyone give me advice!

I plant mine a little further apart than that. The only thing I have that is on your list is shasta daisy. The Shasta daisies I winter sowed last year now are forming clumps approx 16" across and a foot tall. They have many buds on them - the buds are about 2 ft tall. So don't let your babies small size fool you - they have the potential to be huge.

Sorry, I just would not advise going back, digging up HOS's, dividing again and replanting if those seedlings have settled in (maybe if they have'nt..)! I think they might take up more real estate than you think (well except the Allysum) when they're grown.

What I'd do instead to fill space if I thought I would have it? Buy a few packets of Zinnia and/or other seeds that direct sow easily! Tall argeratum and strawflowers also come to mind...

I agree with Nan-6161. Throw down some zinnia seeds and cosmos seeds. Things will fill in.

Is your empty space between the HOS or a completely different part of the yard? As mentioned, those little seedlings will get larger and demand more space than their original square. Check out the seed exchange and see if anyone is giving away free seeds. Any annuals will fill in quickly and as a bonus, they will provide seeds for next year. Also, in the fall, when your seedlings are more mature and the weather is getting cooler, you can separate them and move them where you need them.

RE: Need FAST advice!!

My empty space is in a different area. I just planted all the HOS on monday (3 days ago). I like the idea of filling the space with annuals and then dividing HOS in the fall. I do have some BES vine left (i put them in hanging baskets) that i COULD put in the ground and maybe they'll sprawl. Anyone ever try this?

I had some BES in the ground last year....I thought it would sprawl too. It just seemed to want to crawl up anything it could :) It seems to perform best for me in window boxes or hanging baskets. Hope this helps.
