Has anyone tried to winter/springsow annual geraniums? I just love the look of them but they are to expensive to buy in big quanties. The seeds are not cheap either...

No, never did. Too easy to root about 3 cuttings per glass of water on the east kitchen windowsill. Change the water after 4 days or so, cool. They root in 2 to 3 weeks. My pink ones took a little longer than the red ones.

I've kept mine going from some I bought several years ago. I have them in planters and pots I overwinter in the sunroom but am getting weary of taking care of them. They can be practically dead, water them and usually spring back to life. They're pretty tough, must store water in the stems and not prone to diseases.

But outside in the sun to keep them nice, you have to water them frequently. I keep them in pots and put rocks around the top so the squirrels don't get in them, sometimes do anyway.

Sometimes they need pruning back but not too far down, like leave about 2 inches about 1/4 above a node, lost one by pruning too hard. They grow back and bloom pretty fast.

I lift mine in the fall, shake off the dirt and store them in slightly damp shavings in my cool basement. In the spring I just pot them up and they take off again. My sister takes hers with her to Southern Arizona every winter. They are huge.

How interesting. Since you guys have told me about this I have been searching on this. I do not have any at all to start with I think I will buy the seed online springsow it next year and then save them in my basement......I just love the colors online better then the standard colors at the store.
You guys are a wealth of info.
thanks!
