Official Container Count Results 2009

Good Morning. Here are the results of the Official 2008-2009 Container Count.

Officially, with 249 reporting, we sowed a total of 30,535 containers, up 404 from last year's 30,131. Prior year counts are:

02-03 total 21000+

03-04 total 47075

04-05 total 75093

05-06 total 51248

06-07 total 34407

07-08 total 30131

The total counts per zone, and containers per sower follow. In addition, at the request of stage_rat, I have included the median number of containers sown. I'm counting on stage_rat to include an explanation in English of what that means later on in this thread.

Throughout the season, Zone 6 has led the count, due in part to a booster shot of sowing from exuberant sower lgslgs (Lynda). Periodically, I've posted what the results would have been if lgslgs had her own zone. In most instances, such separation put Zone 5 in the lead for total count, with Zone 7 often having the most containers per sower.

So the big surprise came in the final two weeks of the count, with a surge of containers being reported in Zone 5. In the end, Zone 5 outsowed Zone 6 by 1,025 containers. Notable mentions for sowing exuberance and sowing restraint are at the end of this post. Without further ado, here are the final, offical results off the 2008-2009 Container Count.

WOW. I had put my container count at about 400. WOW. LOL. I guess I didn't pay that much attention to it once I started planting out. I was reusing some containers.

Seedmama, you are awesome. Thanks so much. Best of luck on your cherry brandy! The millet is already planted out. :)

Thanks Seedmama, for doing the count and for adding in the extras there at the end - most exuberant sower and sower showing the most restraint. That was an added treat.

Although I do think it's funny that absweetpea won both for her zone, lol!

Thanks again for all the time and effort you put into this!
    :)

    Great job, seedmama!

Lynda - thanks for your contribution to our zone 6 count! We almost beat zone 5 - but their extra people kicked in to bring it home for them :>( We'll have to recruit more zone 6 WSers - then watch out next year!

Ronald, I've seen chocolatemoose over at DG - think she's still WSing.

Hey seedmama, first of all thanks so much for doing the count it was loads of fun. Second, I was wondering if you kept records for each persons total if you could email me mine. I'm counting as I plant out but didn't as I sowed. If it's too much trouble please don't worry about it. I know we are all busy with our veg. annuals and sprouts.

thank you so very much for your diligent tally-keeping, seedmama. posting completed containers has become such a satisfying part of the process ... and it's a comfort to have hard data proving that one isn't the only mid-winter, seed-sowing lunatic on the planet. :0) thanks again.

Seedmama, thank you so much, this was so much fun to see (and to do)! Thanks also to everyone who supported us new wintersowers with seeds and advice along the way. You are all superstars! Thanks, Sister K

Yeah..You GO Rosepedal. lol She was my first trade last year when I started. Ok, actually, guess it wasn't a trade, she was giving free seed for SASE to a newbie. Good thing she gave some away, huh? Hard telling what her total would've been!
Thank You Seedmama, for all your hard work putting the statistics together.

I have an idea. Let's do a germination rate per zone????

Wow, unexpected "win" for zone 5! It looked we weren't going to pull it off with zone 6 (+Lynda) having such impressive numbers, but apparently we pulled ahead at the end.

Thanks for your hard work Seedmama, great job on the stats - with some interesting results. My total was 112 containers, beating out the average in my zone, and more importantly, qualifying for the "Mile high club". :)

Very interesting statistics, seedmama. I was surprised to be the highest sower in z:4, this is about half of what I have sown previous years and still twice what I expected to sow.
    Thanks for all your work.

Thanks for keeping track of the stats! This was my first year to WS if I had known that my results would be as good as they were, I would have done more containers!!! I did show pics of my containers and seedlings to a recent plant swap, several folks had heard of WS but hesitant to try.......I think there may be some more newbies next year!!!!

Thanks so much, seedmama. I can only image how much work it took on your part and we really appreciate it.

I think, at least for me, was that the count threads provided added incentive. Watching 'rivals' like Token ( ;-P ) posting so often actually spurred me on to sow more than I originally intended. LOL
    Kris (zone 5 rocks!)

Thanks so much, seedmama. All this work AND 8000 poppies. Just read that on another thread...whew!
This was very encouraging to see how much others were doing. Already thinking about next year :). Thanks for all your hard work...goodness grows when shared.
