| Oh my goodness what a terrible mess. And it's nothing at all compared to down the hill in town, or in other sections of the US.
It was still really scary, and the clean up work is going to be crazy. More rain on the way too. The flower garden was not hurt at all. Big flood runoffs in the creek and over the driveway went around our front yard gardens. We did have to go catch our 5 gallon bucket apple tree orchard as they all started floating away - but I think we caught them all. My garden tending paths acted like rain flow channels and ran like rivers - but the perennials have such great root structure that the beds acted like islands. If this had happened in the first year or two after WS, before I had this much root mass, my plants would have washed away. The link will take you to my blog for the week with a bunch of video. I hope none of you are having to deal with anything like this! Lynda |

| OMGosh Lynda, Wayne and I both watched in horror, how scarry for you.Not to meation, the mess you now have to clean up.Just the thought of it**** How on earth are you going to dig the creek area, with moving water, do you have machines to use, or is all hand work? We sure do feel sorry for you. Thank goddness, your gardens are ok,but your drive way. How will you be able to get soil under your porch, it will collapse soon won't it? Omgosh,You have your hands full.So sorry. cAROL |

| The videos are amazing. I'm glad your house and gardens survived. You have your worked but out for you! It is amazing how many people are suffering right now, between drought and flood and tornado. |
|
| Glad you're OK Lynda. Did you have any damage to your house? Karen |

| cAROL, on a 90 degree I can do a lot of digging while sitting in the creek. I have to dig each big rock out by hand and then throw it into a pile. I feel like I'm training to throw a shot-put. We are going to have a friend with an excavating business take a look at the area tomorrow and give us some suggestions. I'm not sure there is a good way to get equipment in there because the backyard is really wet. Shouldn't have to worry about a collapse of the garage foundation. Most of the hole isn't actually under the slab and another friend plans to come by tomorrow night and move our gravel back up the driveway. Karen - house is fine. Just a little damp in the crawl space and a day or two with a fan on should be enough to dry that out. The main thing right now is to get our creek opened up again so that water will drain past instead of flooding like it did. |

| Happy to hear all is well Lynda! The weather is definately unstable everywhere, except Florida. We are in a dry spell, can't plant anything. |

| I'm sorry for the mess, bet that's a spring chore you hadn't planned on. Right here on the edge of the bay we don't usually have that kind of flooding (flash, all at once)...we're tidal influenced which means it has some place to go. Your culvert isn't an unfamiliar issue though...I won't type exactly what the forest engineer looking over my shoulder said (I'd get banned), but the short version is it could have been a good idea if the right size. But it was too small diameter and the creek may have been better off without it. Picking rocks by hand sounds like a painful, tedious, muscle straining job. Do you have access to a small backhoe or know someone who does? That's a lot of feet of creek drainage to clean without... We've had ma nature play a couple of dirty tricks, like tree on the house (neighbors tree, my house). Go ahead a take a day or so to feel bad, then get it back into perspective and be happy you weren't hurt, your animals are all OK...anything else can be fixed. Let us know what your progress is! Problem with these forums is, we're just too spread out to make up a work party for you. |
