Mine have not germinated at all. I WS's. Should I have waited until spring? Do they need a lot of heat to germinate?

Give 'em time Rose. They've always grown like weeds for me. I've only had a few volunteers show up so far this year, many, many more to come I'm sure. Karen

Mine germinated, but they're still really small. I still have their lids taped on.

I sowed both Nicotiana alata and N. sylvestris, and they both sprouted in late April, although they are still rather small. I wonder if your seed was good? Or perhaps sowed too deep? This is a tiny seed and I just press into the surface.

Here's my WS nicotiana avalon pink... The biggest sprouts are about the size of a quarter. Compared to... A nursery plant I bought yesterday. Needed some color, couldn't take staring at an almost empty bed. Kept it to only 1 six pack. My ws plants will join them, soon. |

My Nico. Syl. reseeded in the yard and those plants are large already (greens 6" tall or more). The seeds I started this year (Nico. Baby Bella, Nico. Purple) are small sprouts yet in the jugs. We've not had much heat yet. I have faith they will grow big and strong!

I always had trouble transplanting them - this year, I just direct sowed them and I see some coming up. I actually have one plant that seems to be perennial, and it has spread quite a bit by runners - I wanted to move some of them and found out they were attached to each other. Fortunately, they all had roots. Becky

I'll wait. But it is very possible I washed the seeds away. I would like to Thank Everyone for their comments.

I'm with you, bakemom- most challenging spring ever. My garden beds are too wet to work. My jugs are so wet, the potting mix falls apart if I try to remove from jugs. Leaves are all yellow from too much water. Calendula that I planted out are about dead. When we had that short warm spell I moved my indoor stuff out to my porches. They're mostly coleus. Now it's so cold, the plants are living in my garage and my car is outside. We're running 10 to 30 degrees below normal. We've had 30" of rain year-to-date, while the norm is half of that. Enough already! Karen

Mine have germinated but are teeny tiny. I agree this has been a challenge this Spring, last year my Nicotina was several inches tall by Mother's Day. Everything is slow this year, even the babies in the greenhouse are stunted from lack of sun and cold temps. Have faith, the sun will shine and things will catch up. (fingers crossed)
