Due to the lack of response I'm guessing that nobody has had a favorable outcome. I think I will just order the bulbs.

Someone on the Bulbs Forum might have tried this. You could ask over there. But many of us find Muscari spread more than we want all by themselves. But there's nothing to stop you sowing your seed anyway and finding out for yourself.

I know this post is old, but I thought maybe I might be able to help. I'm currently learning how to keep and grow Muscari. I read somewhere (I'm trying to find the site) that Muscari will not flower for at LEAST the first year, maybe not even the second, either. So, if you're looking to have flowers right away, it's probably best to plant bulbs, rather than sow seeds. But, if you're patient and can stand the wait, sowing them doesn't sound too hard, from what I've read. Here's a link: Gardner's HQ - Muscari Grape Hyacinth.
