| Wow, Donn! You've gotten more in less than three months, than we get in a whole year here! I bet everything's lush and green there though. Bonnie |

| My grass makes it look like I live in Ireland! The calendar says June, but my garden thinks it is May! |

| I was not surprised when I saw in our newspaper that we were no longer in a drought. We have had drought conditions for the last two years. But on a brighter note, I have not had to use my drip hoses. Becky |

| Not only is raining so much, its cool out there. I think today's high will only reach the mid 60's. Definitly not good for eggplants or pepper plants. Alberta |

RE: Global Wetting??

It's getting old here, too. Last week rain Tues 1.14" Wed 0.3" Thurs 0.1" This week Tues 0.1" Wed 1.31" Thurs 1.12" Fri. (today) it's now raining, dark, cloudy, and foggy. It looks like 9p.m. out there. My plants need sun and so do I. Plants are falling over, Yvonne's salvia flowers are knocked off, and some, like nasturtium, are getting yellow leaves. They never get enough sun and little time to dry between rains. The zinnias will never bloom if this keeps up. Karen |

Donn's: April...last year = 2.92" this year = 3.68" May...last year = 3.36" this year = 4.33" June...last year = 2.49" this year (so far) = 2.72" Chicago: (from the National Weather Bureau reports) March: average = 2.65" this year = 5.20" April: average = 3.68" this year = 5.19" May: average = 3.38" this year = 3.63" (wondering now if I misread it somehow) June: average = 1.8 this year = 2.62" already not including today. I was drenched walking home from the train station! Even the umbrella was leaking! And it has been pouring all evening. It has to be more than an inch today alone. We are drowning here. |

According to a report issued today by 30 scientists at 13 US agencies, "We've had more rain coming in heavy downpours that can lead to flooding. Less winter precipitation is falling as snow, more as rain." "U.S. coastlines are under particular threat of rising sea levels and stronger hurricanes." "Climate change is happening now and it's happening in our own backyards, and it affects the kinds of things people care about" |

| Guess what the weather forecast is for the weekend? Rain and more rain. I can't deal with this anymore. It was 47 degrees at 7am when I signed on line. Brrr. Alberta |

I don't know the totals, but my garden journal has only 3 days without rain May, June so far 4 days without rain. Crops are suffering,at this point corn won't be knee high by 4th of July, as the saying goes around here. I lost some newly planted lily bulbs, and taters to rot. The poor sweet peppers are stalled for growth, I hope the blossoms set, just gave them some calcium this morning. The dahlias are stalled also. Now, the 2 or more year old perennials are another story, they have tripled in size. My tipsy pots have only been needing water Sunday Memorial day weekend cause it was so windy. I am so grateful not to have that 2.5 hours of hail, wow! |
RE: Global Wetting??

| Well, make that 3 days without rain, just started pouring. |
RE: Global Wetting??

1.23" last night alone. Sigh....we need an arc. More rain to come the rest of the week. Better than hail, though. My garden would not have been the same after a hail storm like that.... |
RE: Global Wetting??

| We're getting frequent "rain" in the Great Basin, 0.02 several times and 0.06 on another. Reno is near a record, a few inches, for May and June and a TV personality there attributes it to an El Nino affect. |

| and further on the UP side is we sure haven't had to do much watering. I just looked at the weather report here on the computer (AOL for my area) and it's showing rain til at least Tuesday. Today was nice, sunny but awfully cool. I'm supposed to go to an outdoor wedding on Sunday, oh this ought to be fun, NOT. Alberta |

RE: Global Wetting??

| We finally got a good dose of rain today and I'm happy I didn't have to water anything! I hope the folks in southern Ohio are okay after all of the warnings. |

KC is a bit soggy as well. My plants appreciate it, since I usually forget to water. |
RE: Global Wetting??

| That hail in northwestern Jersey was heavy! Saw pics on TV and people were ankle deep in hail stones. Checked weather first thing this AM since it's pouring again. Next 3 days...another 3+ inches of rain. Established plants are splayed something awful. Campanula, Penstemon, Nepeta & some Salvia all have blooms lying on the ground where deer haven't eaten them. Swallowtail butterflies will never find Bronze Fennel if it's all laying on the ground. At least I don't have to earn a living from growing food. Guess it'll be another year of horrible tomatoes from farm stands. My Toms and Peppers aren't going to be great shakes particularly since it's my first try and have no idea what I'm doing. "Sigh" is right. |
RE: Global Wetting??

| Yes, and yet another day of downpours here in DE, too. Will I ever get to see anything in bloom for more than one day? |

RE: Global Wetting??

| I acquired some 25 gallon Rubbermaid trash cans to convert into rain barrels and really have not had the chance until this coming weekend to set them up. Just looked at the forecast for next week. Sunny and high's in the mid to upper 80's! Looks like I missed the boat on this one. Literally and the pun was intended. Funny thing is, my phone rang this morning. It was Seattle. They want their weather back. I said come and get it! And keep it on a leash next time! (cymbal crash) |

| 5.6" for June so far. Another 1.32" today. Average June rainfall is 3.36". ENOUGH! |
RE: Global Wetting??

| ajpa, ROFL...then you could have had frogs serenading you too! Everytime it rains like this I think about "floodthelast" and wonder if her backyard is under water. Hopefully that only happens when waterways flood in really, really bad spells. I went out twice in the rain with plastic spoon in one hand and salt canister in the other on slug hunt. My least favorite plant to pick them off is Lychnis Coronaria not because of poor plant but because the foliage around base is already slimy with all this rain to start with. Killing them with salt is just nasty...can't leave the pile of goo in middle of walk or driveway so have to pick it up with plastic bag. 40 pounds of DE and they're still coming. Three more 40 pound bags at the ready...LOL. I'll remember this when I'm swearing under my breath in August while lugging watering cans to beds and containers where hoses don't reach. |

My allergy is acting up so badly that I wheeze. My doctor said it might be because of molds in the house since it's been so rainy and damp. Never in my life did I have this wheezing. :-( |

| Hmmmm any connection, Donn starts a thread on rainfall and since then the June total is doubled. How about starting a thread on sunshine days then Truid can take off her sweat shirt. |
RE: Global Wetting??

| Over in the Virginia forum I posted a comment about the sorry situation my seedlings were in, nearly drowned from all the rain. Couple that with last year's drought that killed decades old grapes and shrubs. All my efforts this spring wintersowing and starting inside all for nothing since the deluge has done them in. I am beginning to doubt if I will harvest any crop this year. Tomatoes? Look like a joke right now. I am thankful I don't have to feed my family from this garden alone this year, but fear what the outcome would be if I had to. Noah, call on Line 1. |

3.97" yesterday alone! The streets were flooded. So were basements. Mine included. |
RE: Global Wetting??

| Today is the 20th day of June, and we have had at least some rain on 11 of those days. Sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. Yesterday we hit 90 degrees for the first time this year, and with the high humidity, the heat index when I got home from work was 99 degrees. The 10 day forecast shows less rain and more heat than we have had thus far. Karen |
RE: Global Wetting??

| Sigh. Watched our 7 day forcast last night and it had clouds with thunder bolts going through them every day but one. |
RE: Global Wetting??

Calling for 2 inches today, so far I have 1 inch for a measure. The pool is about an inch from the top. Thankfully I was able to get out early this morning and give all the veggies and dahlias a shot of Epsom Salts, got wet but not soaked. Today is also a fund raiser for a local boat club, we pre pared for 450 people last night, set up canopies for walkways between the buildings. Not sure if we wil make our count or not, so called the local Ronald McDonald House, they have 56 staying there, so I can take the leftovers for the guests if we need to. |

RE: Global Wetting??

| Don, Had my plant sale today and was glad the rain didn't come, but you can send it now. We haven't had any rain in a couple of weeks and the ground is way too dry for this time of year. I'll probably curse myself by writing this, but we could use a few days' worth. Today is really humid and you can feel the weight of the atmospheric pressure. Bring it on I say!! |
RE: Global Wetting??

According to the Chicago - O'Hare reporting station: June 1-20: rain = 6.74", average = 15.4" Year to date: 25.31", average = 15.4" It's so hot and humid today I have been hiding inside the house. tiff, I am looking forward to a dryer weather on our trip. |

Roflol, Love that picture :-) (LOL) PV, That weather incident in NJ is frightening! Sounds like something that would happen here (but I'm really glad it didn't!) Linda |
RE: Global Wetting??

| I think that this June will go down in the record books as one of the wettest. Only three or four days with no rain this whole month. Very strange for Utah, but the garden looks good. I have enjoyed the rain. When the hot dry air does move in, it will be here to stay. |

| It continues. October averages 3.22" of rain here, and this year we got 5.40". I've got the most incredible crop of mushrooms, a few different kinds, in my lawn and garden. |
RE: Global Wetting??
| | |
Yeah, we had only 2 days of clear sky in October here. On Friday I thought the rain would never end. The ground is so soggy I have not been able to plant my bulbs yet. But it is sunny right now. I am going to go out and rake leaves and shred them for mulch. Last year I didn't have enough. This year I am neck deep in leaves because my neighbor brought me 20 bags of wet leaves a few days ago. It will be a pain to shred them. :-P
|
RE: Global Wetting??

| The rain took down an amazing amount of leaves overnight here on Friday night. Couldn't believe the difference in the trees from Friday evening to Saturday morning! Everything is still too wet to shred. I've got lots of mushrooms too - and that darn stinkhorn fungus. Yuck. Very aptly named. Stinks to high heaven, and with all those nasty bugs swarming all over it, it's doubly disgusting. I'm really bummed because this was my weekend off and the forecast initially called for nice weather. Had big garden plans. Sigh. I'm sure the sun will be shining brightly tomorrow when I go to work... :) Dee |

October:......8.9"..........6" above normal Drought in Africa for several years. Animals are dying, land is turning to dust. Why can't it rain over there some? |

| Still waiting for ground to dry out so I can plant bulbs and put in some clearance perennials & ferns I've got in original pots still. |
