RE: Red Poppy

I think I've read on here that they do WS but its best to plant out when very tiny because they don't take transplanting well. I bought perennial poppies to DS this year but did not get them out early enough so I am holding them to next year.

Yes, but treat as bookjunky said, plant out when small- one or two sets of true leaves. They're early germinators.

Or, if you have a lot of seed to spare, they can be sown directly.

RE: Red Poppy

I've WS poppy and planted en masse, but the most gorgeous red poppy in my garden is one that self-sowed from a plant last summer. It's 3 feet tall and loaded with beautiful red flowers. If I direct sow should I do it at the end of the summer or wait till early spring/late winter?
