I think I've read on here that they do WS but its best to plant out when very tiny because they don't take transplanting well. I bought perennial poppies to DS this year but did not get them out early enough so I am holding them to next year.

Yes, but treat as bookjunky said, plant out when small- one or two sets of true leaves. They're early germinators. Or, if you have a lot of seed to spare, they can be sown directly. Karen

I've WS poppy and planted en masse, but the most gorgeous red poppy in my garden is one that self-sowed from a plant last summer. It's 3 feet tall and loaded with beautiful red flowers. If I direct sow should I do it at the end of the summer or wait till early spring/late winter?
