THAT is Gorgeous!!! Is that Butterfly Weed? If it is, I'm glad mine germinated (I hope it grows well and blooms)

Yes, Linda, it's butterfly weed. I have 3 of them and I think they're my best plants.

I don't have many bees over here, so I worry, but your corner of the world is beautiful - a gorgeous photo. Indeed prize winning!

Karen - I love butterfly "flower" too. I refuse to call them weeds! I have tons of them. I lucked up and got some yellow ones to germinate in a mixed packet. I now have some that are reddish, yellow and orange.

I'm going to cut mine back now before they go to seeds so they'll bloom again. I do this every year.

Beautiful photo!

I don't cut back my plants. I just pull off pods as they form. As long as they don't set seeds, they rebloom. The second flush of flowers comes around early August I think. They never ask for anything but sun- not even a sip of water during drought.

Thanks for all the compliments on the photo. I didn't think it was that great- just sort of cute with so many bees competing for one flower. The whole plant looks like that much of the day.

What a lovely, cheerful photo. What the dark red flower behind the butterfly weed in the lower left? Such a pretty color.

My butterfly weed just started blooming a couple of days ago and I too have happy bees!
