Zinnias--to split or not to split.

I have been negligent in my planting out--partly due to copious rain. Needless to say, I have several containers of Zinnias that have grown through the top. I'm sure they will be root bound, and I know that Zinnias don't like transplanting any way. So, should I just carefully remove the whole hunk and plant it, or should I try to separate out the individual plants? Or should I chose the healthiest and cut the others off at the ground? Thanks in advance.
