It depends Martha. If they're real tall ones, like California giants, hunks could make for really giant plants. Shorter, spreading ones like Magellan already spread a lot in comparison to their height. Profusions are bushy too.

Zins are one plant where I try to avoid hunks. It can be done, but remember that they'll compete a lot for sun and water.

I'd go for getting rid of stragglers before planting, focusing on the strongest seedlings getting in the ground and sacraficing the rest.Do you have more zinnia seeds? Direct sowing is so easy with zinnias, you could add some seed around where you planted these out.

Yes, I have lots more seeds, though I WS my favorites, of course. I'll cull the pots of stragglers and throw out more seeds. I have a much shorter growing season than some of you, so I've never been brave enough to direct sow. Good time to try it out. Thanks.
