Digitalis lutea and digitalis ambigua will self sow for me, but not with the same enthusiasm of d. purpurea whose seedlings I generally pull. Both are on a slope, and seedlings can end up at the bottom too from grade and coastal wind, not where I normally want them, its a path there.

If its a year I definitely want more, I'll sow some of the seed in (really on, not covered) pots any time they are ripe - WS convenient but not required. Unless your summers, unlike mine, are a little warm for germination?

I've not tried yellow, but the others reseed like weeds. I usually cut off most of the length of the stalk after blooming, leaving just a small portion of the pods to ripen. When they're ripe, I just take the pod and direct sow where I want them to grow. They usually sprout fast, overwinter as small seedlings, and bloom the following year.

This is the first year my foxgloves have bloomed, and I liked them so wel, I planted seeds in a container to set out small plans yet this summer. hope this works as I don't ever want to be without foxgloves again!

I have digitalis grandiflora, the perennial yellow, and yes! they do reseed! I wouldn't say they are aggressive, but I'm now at the point where I do deadhead more of them than not. Because the plants are perennial, so they do come back reliably, and then you have the additional reseeders. I have them all over my yard now - shade, sun, half-and-half - and I love them! I also have plenty to share at swaps and with friends.

The biennials also reseed, sometimes in a surprising way. I wintersowed digitalis alba a few years back - at least four years - and they were beautiful. Well, right at this moment I have four huge white spikes of blooms in my garden, four years later! And when I went to inspect them a few weeks back because I couldn't believe my eyes, I saw what look to be dozens if not hundreds of little foxglove seedlings. I was really (happily) surprised to see them this year!
