OT: Bargain Alert!

Santa Rosa Gardens is having a Summer Clearance sale!

They are a specialist in Ornamental Grasses (but carry other stuff as well), and have some incredible deals right now...plants reduced from as much as $8.99 to as low $1.99.

In addition, if you buy $150 worth of plants, shipping is free..which saves a bundle!

I've bought grasses from these people before, and the quality of product and service is spectacular.

I just placed an order for 89 plants! $154.49 delivered.

I'm finally going to try some zone-denial plants like zone 8 Pennisetums ('Prince' and 'Princess'), and some new stuff like Pennisetum 'Pennstripe' and some new Miscanthus, as well as dozens of Carexes.

No-no-no I will NOT go there - well maybe just a peak. Bad thing is my finance called me today to tell me that I did pretty good for the first quarter of the year and that I should treat myself since I cut our finances WAY back when the market started to tank. Soooooooo - headed over there now......

RE: OT: Bargain Alert!

I've been feeling down this week about the garden in this rainy/cool lousy weather with my WS babies staying SO tiny.
So I had NO CHOICE but to treat myself to some plants!

Hellobores, hens and chicks, some artimesia, some jacobs ladder to replace the seedlings that the slugs ate. $84 dollars for 40 plants delivered.

I am feeling happier :) :) :)

Thanks for the shopping tip!
Nancy

Phew; not enough to make it worth the order. But that cortaderia (sp) selloanna..the white one...oh, how PRETTY!!! Wish I had a spot for something like that, or lived in another zone.

Escaped unscathed....not that I was not tempted...lol

I was so impressed after unpacking and watering, I sat down and placed another order for 79 more grasses!

OH MY! Those look awesome. What is the huge grass in the

That's Arundo donax 'Peppermint Stick.' It can grow to 18' tall (but probably only 10-12' in my zone) and looks like giant striped corn.

NICE!!!!

I received an email that my order is in transit - apparently left GA and went to FL for some reason before making the trip north but I am hoping it arrives soon! Tell me... did they arrive in those nice crates or did you have the crates already and move them in there? And what is the "not a grass" plant on the front left corner?

They arrived as they always do. First the plant is sheathed in a mesh sock, which covers the entire pot and most of the foliage.

Then each plant is wrapped in several layers of brown craft paper. They're layered into the cartons in alternate, so each plant is fully protected, and cannot move.

Those "nice crates" are mine. I bought them second-hand from the manufacturer, who has deals with growers to replace their used flats with new ones, and then resells the used ones. I sterilize them, repair them where needed, and have some in use for 6 years now.

That non-grass is Duranta erecta 'Cuban Gold.' It was erroneously labeled as hardy to zone 7b, so I ordered 5 of them at $1.99 each. After researching it, I found it's a zone-9 tropical. They refunded my payment for them. I'll try to winter them over indoors. It's a beautiful chartreuse dwarf shrub from Jamaica.

I asked cause I was looking at that one on line and thought it might be it! I didn't order it though. My interest was sparked by it being from Jamaica. I love Jamica (Negril)though we haven't been for a few years. So lush in thier gardens.

Too bad those flats don't arrive with the plants!

Guess I'll have to hope my plants come Monday as I doubt they are delivering over the holiday weekend.

Gorgeous plants. I envy you for the room you have to grow these fabulous grass.
One day soon your garden will look like the prairie.
Can't wait to see pics.
