I love cerinthe. It's blue-green foliage and purple flowers look so cool and yet it grows wonderfully in my dry garden with perennial salvia, yarrow, Russian sage. The other reason I like it is that it is unusual. Few folks around here grow it. One year I asked the Future Farmers to grow it for me especially. They major in marigolds, common celosia, annual scarlet sage and other common stuff along with veggie seedlings. But they grew the cerinthe, in 4 inch pots for $1.50 each--not in 6 packs. I went up to the county
high school in early May only to find there had been a change in Agriculture faculty and the greenhouse production was way down. About a week after my disappointment I found one cerinthe,

'Like' - Cerinthe are one of my favorite as well, however they did not germinate for me this year. Congratulations on the volunteers - they do give great seed, maybe you can save some to sow for next year.

Chris, I direct sowed a few saved seeds in late April, the seedlings are about 4-6" tall this week so coming along, but slowly. (We had a really cool, grey and wet Spring.) I found ONE self sown seedling, moved it, and really set it back - it's no bigger than those I sowed :) I had given a couple of WS cerinthe to my neighbor last Spring and she had an armload of self sown seedlings in Fall, none of them made it through winter. She has none this Spring but there is always the possibility she didn't recognize them and weeded them out.

I wintersowed cerinthe this year, but got no germination. I have leftover seeds from the commercial packet, plus some seeds I got in a trade. Do you think I should just try again via WS? Or can I put in a special request with a commercial greenhouse? Or just how to find plants for sale somewhere nest year? Maybe someone sells plants on line and ships them. Martha

I'd go ahead and sow a few right now!! If you do it in containers you will be able to water until they germinate. I'm saying this because mine that fell on the ground last fall are just waking up this month. Chris
