Can I use a artificial light source in the winter?

I have many plants, about 10 actually in my container garden. That's quiet a few to bring inside when winter comes swinging around. I was wondering is it plausible to bring the plants into the garage in the winter or the guest room we have and use a artificial light source to give them the light they need? If so what kind of light bulb would I need?

It's definitely possible. It depends on what plants you have. Some can do very well indoors. Others need a dormant period, so might need to die off for the winter, but then might re sprout if they didn't freeze. You might get more information from the "Growing Under Lights" forum. But, if you list the specific plants you have, some of us might be able to give suggestions. Can't wait to hear what you've got.
